Tinkham Campground - Scouting Stampede Pass for locations to take my T@B 360
Follow along this week as we set up camp at Tinkham Campground along the South Fork Snoqualmie River, tucked under the tall firs just east of North Bend, WA. After our first night, we headed into town for a quick stop and then headed back into the mountains to scout new campsites and explore the backroads. Stampede Pass delivered its usual mix of rugged climbs, forest roads, and wide‑open ridge views.
Camping Stampede Pass - Hiking on the Pacific Crest Trail
Follow along this week as Chef Troy and I head up the forest roads to Stampede Pass for a two‑night camping trip. The weather keeps Mount Rainier tucked behind the fog, but we still get in a good hike on the Pacific Crest Trail and settle into camp for some great food. Troy cooks up a solid meal and caps the day with a surprise beer. Good company, good food, and a quiet corner of Washington’s backcountry.
Easy Camping at Denny Creek Campground in the Mt. Baker–Snoqualmie National Forest
Follow along this week as we make our way to Denny Creek Campground for a simple weekend away, just me and my favorite wife, no schedules and no rushing. The campground sits tucked under old firs with the creek running right through it, and it was the perfect place to slow down. Early morning hikes to Franklin Falls, and to the slabs on the Denny Creek Trail.

I am Back for another camping and hiking adventure at Camano Island State Park, and this time my favorite wife joined me for a low‑key Valentine’s Day weekend that felt more like early spring than mid‑February. Blue skies, mild temps, and dry trails made for the perfect backdrop for exploring the park and taking part in the Great Northwest Glass Quest.

Hiking Pinnacle Lake Trail: Rugged, Beautiful, and a Tragic Past
Tucked deep in Washington’s Cascade foothills, Pinnacle Lake Trail offers alpine views, mossy forests, and a rugged escape from the crowds. But this serene trail holds a dark chapter: in 2006, two hikers were tragically murdered, a mystery that remains unsolved to this day. Just down the road, Verlot Campground made for the perfect basecamp with riverfront views for baking my birthday cake in a camp oven.
Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest: Part 2 - Hike + Steak & Lobster Dinner
Follow along this week for Part 2 of camping and hiking in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest near Twisp, Washington. We start this episode with a remote hike to an alpine lake that delivers pristine views, peaceful solitude, and an unforgettable surprise - 17 goats!! After the hike, Chef Troy transforms our campsite into a five-star dining experience with a sous vide (pronounced soo-veed) steak and lobster dinner finished with a blow torch!!
Okanogan Wenatchee National Forest: Part 1 - Hike & Campground Review
Follow along this weel as Chef Troy and I explore Poplar Flat Campground, a quiet spot tucked deep in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest near Twisp, WA. This first-come, first-served site sits along the Twisp River and offers access to nearby hiking trails. The area shows signs of past fire activity, but regrowth is underway, and the views are wide open.

In this catch & cook adventure, we hit the waters off Point Defiance in Tacoma, WA to reel in one of the most underrated salmon species out there.
